Antonio María de Lasi Fortuni is recognized internationally as an expert in bariatric surgery and surgical treatment of esophageal, colon, and rectal cancer. He has contributed significantly to the development of abdominal surgery, pioneering techniques such as oral cholecystectomy, gastric and part of the colon tumor removal via the vaginal route (NOTES – Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery), and the SILS approach in bariatric surgery (single incision laparoscopic surgery). Moreover, he performed the first-ever rectal surgery through the anal opening, which led to the creation of the TaTME method, now regarded as the best approach for colorectal cancer.
