Robert Timme

About the doctoк
Dr. Robert Timme is the medical director of the therapeutic department specializing in gastroenterology, hepatology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases at the University Hospital Freiburg. His department provides care for patients with gastrointestinal tumors, viral hepatitis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. His professional and scientific interests include studying immune responses in hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infections.
His research group presented new insights into the mechanisms of T-cell function in viral hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma: HLA-B27 antibodies provide protection in HCV infection, but viral escape is the main cause of T-cell failure in chronic HCV infection. Therefore, the development of new cell culture models of virus-specific CD8+ T cells could lead to partial immune restoration.
Since 2021, Dr. Robert Timme has been a speaker for the BMBF Advanced Clinician Scientist Program: IMMediate — Immune-mediated Diseases, and since 2020, he has been a project leader for H2020 IP-cure B — Interventions for the Cure of Hepatitis B Infection (EU Project).
