Belmond Reid’s Palace is one of the most renowned hotels in Madeira and a historic landmark of the region. The hotel stands atop a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the city of Funchal. Opened in 1891, Reid’s Palace became the first luxury hotel on the island and has since remained a benchmark of classic European hospitality.
The building, designed in colonial style, is surrounded by a four-hectare botanical garden featuring camellias, orchids, and rare species of palm trees. Over the years, the hotel has hosted distinguished guests such as Winston Churchill, Bernard Shaw, and Grace Kelly.
The hotel offers 111 rooms, including 47 suites. All accommodations are decorated in light tones with elements of classic British design and feature balconies or terraces.

The hotel houses three à la carte restaurants, each with terraces overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
William Restaurant — a Michelin-starred restaurant led by Chef Luís Pestana, offering a contemporary interpretation of Portuguese cuisine. The menu includes Atlantic tuna, black cod, and lamb dishes. The interior is decorated in light tones, with panoramic windows and ocean views. Open for dinner only.
Ristorante Villa Cipriani is located on a terrace “suspended” above the ocean. It serves authentic Italian cuisine — handmade pasta, seafood risotto, veal dishes, and traditional desserts. The wine list includes selections from Italy, Portugal, and the Old World. The atmosphere remains intimate even during high season.
Pool Terrace — a poolside restaurant serving light Mediterranean dishes (salads, grilled fish), fresh fruit, and homemade lemonades.
Every day, the hotel’s terrace hosts traditional English afternoon tea, a Reid’s Palace custom dating back to the early 20th century. Guests can choose from over twenty varieties of tea — from classic Darjeeling and Earl Grey to rare aromatic blends with herbs grown in Madeira’s gardens.

The spa complex includes five treatment rooms, each opening onto a terrace with ocean views. There is a dedicated couple’s suite with a jacuzzi. Guests have access to a dry sauna, steam bath, and fitness studio.
