Professor Jan Fichtner is a urologist, professor, and Head of the Department of Urology at Johanniter Krankenhaus Oberhausen. He also heads the Uro-Oncology Center Oberhausen Niederrhein, which specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the urinary tract and male reproductive system.
Fichtner’s main clinical focus is surgical urologic oncology. His expertise includes the surgical treatment of prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer, radical nerve-sparing prostatectomy, including robot-assisted surgery using the Da Vinci system. He also specializes in the surgical treatment of benign prostate conditions, reconstructive urology, and the treatment of urinary stones.
Fichtner combines clinical practice with research and medical education. He completed research training at Stanford University, obtained his habilitation in urology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 1997, and has held the status of außerplanmäßiger Professor since 2005. His research focuses, among other areas, on prostate cancer, reconstructive urology, and advanced surgical techniques. His work is represented by a substantial body of scientific publications.
In 2021 and 2022, Professor Fichtner was named one of Germany’s top physicians in the treatment of uro-oncological diseases by Focus and Stern.
