Dr. Wolfgang Pfisterer is a neurosurgeon with 35 years of professional experience. He sees patients at Rudolfinerhaus Private Clinic in Vienna. Since December 2023, he has been serving as Acting Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Donaustadt Clinic, a major multidisciplinary hospital in Vienna, where he previously worked as a senior consultant for more than 20 years.
Dr. Pfisterer specializes in microsurgical spinal procedures, including the treatment of intervertebral disc herniation, spinal canal stenosis, tumors of the spinal cord and its membranes. Another important area of his practice is pediatric neurosurgery, including the treatment of congenital malformations, hydrocephalus, and the consequences of traumatic brain injuries in children. He is also experienced in endoscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Pfisterer completed a research fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute and Arizona State University, USA, where he conducted research into the molecular genetics of brain tumors and the accuracy of neuronavigation in neurosurgical procedures. In 2008, he completed his habilitation at the Medical University of Vienna. Since 2021, he has been teaching at the Faculty of Medicine of Sigmund Freud University Vienna.
