Resort description
Abano Grand Hotel Terme 5*L — thermal complex at the Abano Terme resort. It specializes in the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, age-related changes, post-trauma conditions, as well as detox and anti-aging programs.
The resort’s medical facilities are based on two natural factors: hyperthermal mineral water and mature Euganian mud. The mineral water emerges at the surface at a temperature of 80—87°C and contains biologically active substances—iodine, bromine, selenium. When immersed in baths and when applying the mud, these components penetrate the skin, exerting a pronounced anti-inflammatory and regenerative effect on joints and tissues.
Euganian mud, accumulating beneficial substances over three years in mineral water, is used for recovery in cases of musculoskeletal diseases. It activates metabolism, enhances microcirculation and lymphatic drainage, reduces swelling and stiffness of movements. The anti-inflammatory components of the Euganian mud help slow degenerative changes of joint cartilage and extend remission periods. At the same time, the skin condition and tissue tone are improved.
Abano Grand Hotel is suitable for patients with arthrosis, osteochondrosis, rheumatism, excess weight, post-injury and post-surgical conditions, signs of skin aging, stress, and fatigue. As well as for those who need comprehensive recovery from physical and psychological stress.
The recommended course of treatment lasts from 7 to 21 days. To achieve maximum therapeutic effect, it is advised to undergo the treatment course twice a year (in spring and autumn) or once a year for prevention and to maintain results.
Medical centers
Medical center Romanae Thermal Spa
Romanae Thermal Spa — a specialized medical center for thermal therapy and mud treatment, integrating principles of ancient Roman balneotherapy with modern resort medicine.
The center is equipped with professional equipment (mud application rooms, stationary baths, cryotherapy units, physiotherapy machines) and complies with European standards of hygiene and safety.
Main procedures:
| Mud therapy (Fango Therapy) | Application of Euganian mud at 38—42°C (15—20 minutes) on the joints, spine, and back muscles. Active substances penetrate the skin and act on the joint capsule, synovial fluid, and cartilaginous tissue. |
| Ozone baths (Ozone Thermal Baths) | Immersion in mineral water (36—38°C, 20—30 minutes), enriched with ozone. Ozone activates redox reactions, improves tissue oxygenation, and stimulates metabolism by 15—20%. |
| Mineral baths (Aqua Thermae) | Four specialized pools: Etoile (29—34°C, outdoor), Soleil (30—34°C + hydro-massage), Lune (32—36°C, indoor), Aqua Space (individual with trainer). Hydrostatic pressure improves lymphatic drainage; heat relaxes muscles; the mineral composition penetrates through the skin. |
| Water physiokinesis therapy(Aquatic Physiotherapy) | Specialized exercises in mineral water (36—38°C) under physiotherapist supervision (30—45 minutes). Water reduces load on joints by 50—70%, resistance strengthens muscles, and minerals promote regeneration of joint surfaces. |
| Massage and physiotherapy | Classical therapeutic, point, and lymphatic drainage massage, ultrasonic therapy, magnetotherapy, and electrophoresis with medicinal substances. |
| Inhalations and aromatherapy | Inhalation therapy with hyperthermal mineral water and essential oils. Anti-inflammatory trace elements in the water act on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. |

Frequently asked questions
Mud therapy (Fango Therapy) — the main procedure with 70—80% effectiveness in pain reduction. It is combined with mineral baths, physiokinesitherapy, and massage.
Procedures with hot thermal baths and mud therapy (38—42°C) are generally not recommended for children under 14 years old due to the high water temperature. However, mineral water inhalations are safe and recommended for children of all ages, especially with chronic bronchitis and recurrent respiratory infections. Mineral baths at lower temperatures (Etoile 29—34°C) are possible under constant parental supervision and with a written consent from a pediatrician. Please clarify specific options when booking.
After completing one course (7—14 days), the effect can last 6—12 months. For a long-term effect, it is recommended to repeat courses 1—2 times a year.
Thermal procedures are available year-round. The water temperature in the pools allows swimming even in winter. The peak season is from May to September. It is advisable to book 2—3 months in advance.
To develop an individual treatment plan, it is recommended to provide a medical certificate with the diagnosis. The documents must be translated into English or Italian.
