Resort description
Biarritz is situated on the Atlantic coast in a temperate oceanic climate zone. The seawater temperature in the region ranges from +13°C in winter to +21°C in summer, allowing thalasso treatments to be carried out year-round. The air is rich in iodine and healing sea salt aerosols.
Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar Thalassa Sea & Spa 5* is located on the Atlantic Ocean beachfront, a 10-minute walk from the center of Biarritz. The foundation of its wellness programs is Atlantic seawater, which is heated to body temperature (34-37°C) before use. The water contains magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium, and trace elements in concentrations close to those of blood plasma. When applied externally, it produces anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxing effects, improves peripheral circulation, and stimulates lymphatic drainage.
Atlantic seaweed — laminaria and fucus harvested from the region’s coastal waters — is used in wrap treatments. Rich in alginates, polysaccharides, and iodine, they enhance the skin remineralization and detox effects of the procedures.
Sofitel Biarritz Le Miramar is focused on non-pharmacological wellness for functional musculoskeletal disorders, chronic fatigue, stress-related conditions, excess weight, and age-related skin changes.
Medical centers
Thalassa Thalassotherapy Center
The center’s infrastructure includes 13 treatment rooms, a panoramic outdoor seawater pool, and an indoor hydrotherapy pool. A sauna and hammam are also available. For physical activity, patients have access to an ocean-view fitness room, personal training, aqua aerobics, and Pilates.
Procedures use heated Atlantic seawater. Wellness programs are tailored to the individual patient’s goal: relaxation, recovery after physical exertion, or skincare. No prior medical consultation is required.
Main treatment methods:
| Therapeutic baths | – Hydrotherapy bath with seawater — underwater jets act on the body from multiple directions, relaxing muscles and joints. – Hydro-energy — a bath with thousands of massaging granules targeting the feet and lower legs. – Vichy shower — fine-mist seawater spray applied over the entire body, replenishing trace elements through the skin. |
| Massages | – Well Spa Hydrojet — massage delivered through a water mattress using two powerful jets from the ankles to the shoulders, relieving muscle tension. – Watermass — a drainage technique using a spray nozzle: eliminates toxins, refines the silhouette, or provides deep relaxation. – Horizontal Hydromassage — horizontal hydromassage targeting back tension relief and circulation stimulation. – Ocean Wave — a relaxing ritual with a choice of effect: relaxation, toning, or body contouring. |
| Wraps | – Seaweed Wrap — thermal wrap based on three marine components: laminaria for skin remineralization and recovery, fucus for drainage and body contouring, and sea mud for muscle relaxation. – Marine Cocoon — wrap on a floating treatment bed combined with a relaxing head and face massage and music therapy. – Zenitude Wrap — warming, hydrating wrap with a citrus scent combined with face and foot massage. |
The Thalasso Center offers ready-made programs lasting from 1 to 6 days, with or without accommodation. Available options:
