Prof. Evgenij Vladimirovich Potapov is a German cardiac surgeon of Russian origin, professor and senior physician in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the German Heart Center of Charité in Berlin. He heads the Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, which specializes in the surgical treatment of patients with severe and end-stage heart failure using mechanical circulatory support systems.
Prof. Potapov has been working at the German Heart Center in Berlin since 1997. His clinical and scientific work focuses on the treatment of end-stage heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, VAD systems, and heart transplantation. One of the important areas of his work is the assessment of donor heart condition and the selection of the optimal support strategy for patients before and after transplantation.
Prof. Potapov’s scientific work has a strong international focus. He participates in the development of international guidelines on mechanical circulatory support, presents his work at congresses of leading professional societies, and is the author of hundreds of scientific publications.
