Hair transplantation

Hair transplantation is a procedure used to restore hair coverage on various areas of the body (scalp, eyebrows, eyelashes) through microsurgical techniques. The global standard for hair graft survival using advanced technologies is 95%. The procedure is virtually painless and can be performed on an outpatient basis (the patient does not need to stay in the clinic after the procedure).

Indications for hair transplantation:

  • Androgenetic alopecia – a genetic condition characterized by gradual hair thinning and balding. In 98% of cases, male hair loss is caused by this pathology. Women experience androgenetic alopecia three times less frequently.
  • Cicatricial alopecia – hair loss caused by infections, trauma, or burns.
  • Need to conceal visible defects (most commonly scars).

Procedure features in leading global clinics

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) officially recognizes two methods of hair transplantation — the suture-free FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique and the strip FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method.

FUE method

An innovative method for treating hair loss of varying degrees. It involves extracting hair from areas with normal growth (typically the occipital zone) and transplanting it into areas of hair loss. It is often used to add density and volume to the hairstyle. The procedure is effective for both men and women.

Advantages of the FUE method

  • Individual approach: every patient is unique, and FUE allows the physician to adapt the transplantation technique based on hair characteristics, type of alopecia, and desired hairline in order to create a natural appearance after the procedure.
  • Minimally invasive procedure: does not require removal of a skin strip from the occipital area. Individual follicles are extracted using a specialized tool, which significantly reduces tissue trauma and minimizes the risk of visible scarring.
  • Natural look: the procedure preserves the natural direction of hair growth, ensuring a more harmonious appearance after transplantation. Proper distribution of follicles helps achieve the effect of density and volume.
  • Robotic systems: used for follicle extraction. This increases precision and efficiency, reduces the risk of damage to surrounding tissues, and improves the quality of the transplanted hair.

FUT method

This is a microsurgical procedure in which a strip of hair-bearing scalp is taken from the occipital region and divided into grafts (units).

Advantages of the FUT method:

  • Effectiveness in cases of significant hair loss: especially suitable for individuals with advanced hair loss or those requiring a large number of transplanted follicles. The method allows the extraction of a substantial amount of hair in a single session.
  • High density of transplanted hair: due to the strip technique, follicles can be placed at a minimal distance from each other.
  • Long-lasting result: hair transplanted using the FUT method usually grows in a physiological manner and can remain viable for many years.
  • Natural hairline: surgeons can precisely control the direction and angle of transplantation, which contributes to a harmonious appearance.
