Resort description

Elisabethpark Hotel is an internationally renowned health resort specializing in radon therapy and rehabilitative medicine for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, respiratory, and skin diseases.

Founded in 1882, it is one of the oldest resorts in the Alps. Over more than 140 years of operation, it has accumulated unique expertise in the application of radon therapy. In the second half of the 20th century, Elisabethpark Hotel became the first hotel in the resort to build a thermal water pool fed directly from a hot spring.

Elisabethpark in Bad Gastein is suitable for patients recommended for treatment based on radon therapy, thermal waters, and the gentle mountain climate. Typically, the course lasts from 2 to 3 weeks and includes 8-12 colonnade sessions, as well as physiotherapy procedures and controlled physical activity. The final list of procedures and the eligibility for radon therapy are determined by a doctor based on medical documentation and the initial examination of the patient.

Guests of Elisabethpark are provided with free transfers to the resort’s therapeutic tunnels. The unique feature of Gastein’s tunnels is that nowhere else in the world is there such a natural combination of health-promoting factors: radon, heat (37-40.5°C), and high air humidity (70-100%). The inert gas enters through the respiratory tract and skin, rapidly spreading throughout the body and activating mediators, which results in: reduction of pain, suppression of inflammation, cell regeneration.

Contraindications to radon therapy:

  • Tuberculosis
  • Malignant neoplasms
  • Severe heart failure
  • Uncontrolled stage III hypertension
  • Pregnancy
  • Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism
  • Psychiatric disorders in the acute phase
  • Severe kidney failure
  • Severe hepatic failure
  • Active infectious diseases

Frequently asked questions

Is radon therapy safe?

Yes, completely safe. Radon is an inert gas that does not accumulate in the body and is excreted through respiration. The concentration in the tunnels complies with WHO standards.

How many sessions are needed to achieve results?

At least 10 sessions, optimally 12-15 sessions. Maximum effect is typically reached 3-6 months after the course.

How long do the results last?

After one course — 6 to 12 months. For long-term effects, the course should be repeated once a year.

Are there any side effects from radon treatment?

Rare (less than 5% of patients). Usually, minor symptoms such as temporary exacerbation of the condition or a mild cough may occur. Symptoms typically disappear within 1-2 days.

When are the first treatment results visible?

After 3-4 sessions, about 30% of patients experience relief. After 7-8 sessions, approximately 70% notice improvement.

When is it recommended to book the treatment course?

2-3 months before arrival. For the summer season (May-September), it is advisable to book 4-5 months in advance.
