Karlovy Vary is a renowned balneological resort in the Teplá River valley in western Czech Republic. Fifteen healing springs have been brought to the surface here, whose therapeutic properties have been known since the 14th century. The water temperature varies from 30 to 73°C, and its chemical composition is of the sodium-bicarbonate-sulfate type. The most powerful spring is Vřídlo (the Geyser), which shoots a fountain up to 12 meters high.
In the central sanatorium area, near the thermal waters and drinking colonnades, is located the Carlsbad Plaza Medical Spa & Wellness Hotel 5* Superior. On its territory, a direct water supply is organized from the Geyser well itself. It is used for drinking cures and for balneological procedures. In the medical base of the health center of the resort over 250 different health methods are presented.
The Carlsbad Plaza Medical Resort is suitable for patients who are recommended treatment of gastrointestinal pathologies, metabolic disorders (including diabetes mellitus, obesity, gout), musculoskeletal diseases, liver and bile ducts.

Medical Spa Gallery Medical Center
Medical Spa Gallery is the central balneological department of the resort. The treatment is based on the centuries-old tradition of Karlovy Vary sanatorium therapy. Medical support for patients is provided by a team of doctors of 14 specializations.
The main procedures of the medical center are:
| Underwater massage | The procedure is performed in a special bath with thermal mineral water. Massage jets are directed at the patient’s body underwater, which reduces stress on the spine and joints. The method allows deep muscle layers to be worked without pain. |
| Therapeutic baths | A carbon dioxide bath saturates the skin with CO₂, dilates blood vessels and lowers blood pressure. A dry carbon dioxide bath affects the body from neck to feet, increases blood oxygen content and improves blood supply. A pearl bath has a gentle massaging effect, relaxes muscles and has a sedative effect. |
| Shock wave therapy | The method is based on the effect of low-frequency waves on the pathological focus. The waves penetrate deep tissues, stimulating microcirculation and regeneration. The procedure is used in the treatment of heel spurs, epicondylitis (tennis elbow), calcifications in tendons and myofascial pain syndromes. |
| Carboxytherapy | Subcutaneous or intracutaneous administration of medical carbon dioxide. CO₂ causes local vasodilation and improves tissue respiration. The procedure stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. It is used to treat cellulite, local fat deposits, scar changes in the skin and chronic venous insufficiency. |
| Cryotherapy | A method of short-term exposure to extremely low temperatures (down to -110°C) on the body surface. The patient is placed in a cryo chamber for 2-3 minutes. Cold stress causes the release of endorphins, reduces inflammation and muscle spasm, and activates the immune system. Cryotherapy is indicated for rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, as well as to accelerate recovery after injuries and intense physical exertion. |
| Inhalations | The patient inhales a fine aerosol containing Karlovy Vary thermal mineral water or medications. The procedure moistens the respiratory mucosa, thins phlegm and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Indicated for chronic bronchitis, tracheitis and diseases of the upper respiratory tract. |
| Gum irrigation | A stream of thermal mineral water is directed at the oral mucosa and gums. The water has an anti-inflammatory and astringent effect. The procedure is used for periodontitis, gingivitis and other dental diseases. |
| Laser therapy | Exposure of the pathological focus to low-intensity laser radiation. The laser stimulates reparative processes, reduces inflammation and swelling. Used for trophic ulcers, long-term non-healing wounds, inflammatory diseases of the joints and ligaments. |
At the Medical Spa Gallery, patients have access to three main formats of sanatorium treatment. Light includes an initial medical consultation and one procedure per day. Classic (basic sanatorium treatment) includes 2-3 procedures per day, laboratory tests and a follow-up medical consultation. Intensive includes 3-4 procedures per day and an extended scope of medical supervision. A wellness package for effective weight loss has also been developed.
For patients requiring maximum privacy, treatment apartments, Medical Spa Suites, are available. Procedures in the apartments for one or two people are carried out over 2.5 hours.
Carlsbad Clinic Medical Rehabilitation Center
Carlsbad Clinic is a medical center with a diagnostic and consultative focus.
At the clinic, patients have access to consultations with:

Wellnessland Alt Karlsbad Wellness Center
The Wellnessland Alt Karlsbad wellness center is designed in the image of the old town of Karlsbad.
The infrastructure of Wellnessland Alt Karlsbad includes a complex of pools and a sauna village, Saunadorf:
- 5 types of water features: swimming pool, acupressure and mineral pools, two Jacuzzis with hydromassage and anatomical loungers.
- 7 types of saunas: salt (38-43°C), herbal (38-43°C), Turkish steam bath (42-45°C), Finnish (80-90°C), Russian sauna (95-110°C), tepidarium (38°C), infrared cabin (40-50°C).
- Cooling cave Grotha, ice barrel, bucket of ice water and cool shower.
- Fitness room.
Contraindications to sanatorium treatment and visits to aquatic and thermal areas include: acute infectious diseases, active-stage oncological processes, pregnancy, decompensated heart failure, epilepsy, bleeding and severe mental disorders. Additional contraindications for visiting saunas and pools include heart defects, thrombosis, acute inflammatory processes, fungal skin infections, as well as age under 12 years (without adult accompaniment).

The high season is spring and autumn — the period of most comfortable temperatures for walking and taking mineral water directly at the springs. In summer, the number of patients is at its maximum; in winter, it is at its minimum. The choice of season depends on individual preferences and concomitant diseases.
Treatment at the Medical Spa Gallery is provided to persons over 12 years of age. Children under 12 years old can stay at the resort accompanied by their parents, but treatment procedures are not prescribed for them. Visits to the Wellnessland Alt Karlsbad wellness center by children under 12 are only permitted until 6:00 PM and when accompanied by adults.
There is no official requirement to provide preliminary medical documents for check-in. However, to prescribe an effective treatment program, it is recommended to have with you summaries of your outpatient medical records, test results and reports from specialized specialists regarding your underlying disease. Upon arrival, an initial medical examination and comprehensive laboratory blood tests are carried out.
The minimum recommended duration of treatment at the Medical Spa Gallery is 7 nights. The standard treatment package is designed for exactly this period and includes 18 procedures per week. To achieve a lasting clinical effect for chronic diseases, a stay of 14 to 21 days may be recommended.
