Resort description

Vichy is located in the Auvergne region, in the Allier River valley, at an altitude of 263 meters above sea level. The city has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2021 as one of the historic balneological resorts of Europe.

Mercure Vichy Thermalia 4* is located in the center of Vichy and is directly connected to the Thermes des Dômes thermal complex, where wellness procedures are carried out for resort patients. The basis of the treatment programs is the local mineral water, which is bicarbonate-sodium, rich in carbon dioxide. The water from the Dôme and Lys springs, with temperatures of 66°C and 60.5°C, is used for external procedures and for preparing therapeutic mud based on local clay.

Vichy mud (péloïde de Vichy) is another important therapeutic factor in the region. It is prepared from local kaolin, which is kept in pools with spring water for at least a month. During this time, colonies of algae naturally form on the surface of the clay, which have an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect on the body.

The resort is suitable for patients who are recommended preventive wellness and recovery for chronic fatigue, the effects of stress, high workloads and a sedentary lifestyle. The Thermes des Dômes thermal center offers treatment for chronic rheumatic diseases, arthrosis of the spine and large joints, excess weight and metabolic disorders.

Frequently asked questions

How does Vichy differ from a classic spa resort?

Vichy is a medical thermal resort where joint, back and dermatological diseases are treated under medical supervision using unique healing water. A classic spa resort mainly offers only relaxation and cosmetic procedures.

When is the best time to come for wellness treatment at the Vichy resort?

The climate of the Vichy region is temperate, without sharp temperature fluctuations, so thermal treatment can be undertaken year-round. For a medical course, booking 2-3 months in advance is recommended, especially during high season when places are limited.

Are there age restrictions for visiting the Thermes des Dômes thermal center?

The Thermes des Dômes thermal center accepts adult patients from 18 years of age. Children and teenagers are only allowed to access certain wellness services when accompanied by parents and after consultation with the thermal center. There is no specialized pediatric department at the resort.

How long does the daily treatment program at the Thermes des Dômes center take?

On average, the daily treatment schedule takes 3 to 5 hours, including: medical supervision (brief examination), 3-4 different procedures and breaks between them. The Pass Dômes program offers a more flexible schedule and allows access to the thermal areas and pools throughout the day without a fixed timetable.

Are there medically supervised programs at the Thermes des Dômes center?

Yes, the Thermes des Dômes thermal center offers an 18-day medical course, which is designed and supervised by a doctor. The program includes drinking cures, thermal baths, mud applications, showers, and pool sessions with a physiotherapist. The course is indicated for rheumatological problems, digestive system diseases and metabolic disorders.

Is it possible to come to the Vichy resort for just one day without a treatment course?

Yes, the Pass Dômes program is designed for this — a one‑day entry format to the wellness center with access to the thermal pool, hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, cold‑jet area and salt wall. It is an excellent opportunity to rest and rejuvenate without a strict schedule and a long‑term program.

The information on the website is for reference only, does not replace a medical consultation, and is not an individual medical recommendation or offer for medical services. The final decision regarding the treatment options and protocol is made by your attending physician and the resort’s doctor based on the medical documentation.
